HCAC donates more than 250 items to Chennai, India in Oct. 2007
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has a rich history of involvement in the international arena. Motivated by compassion and a thirst for justice, the Sorority harnesses resources from throughout its 200,000 members at home and around the globe to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping communities build sustainable futures one person at a time.Through our International Awareness & Involvement Thrust, we reach beyond responses to natural and manmade disasters and conflicts; our work addresses the unfortunate daily existences that plague third-world nations, primarily counted within the African Diaspora. We seek to expand the dialogue and inspire changes in social, economic and health conditions throughout the world. Some of the Harford County Alumnae Chapter’s International initiatives include:
Charity to Chennai, India As the 2nd Episcopal District of the African Methodist Church prepared to inaugurate more than 20 India-based churches into the Christian denomination, the sorority responded to a plea for missionary support by providing more than 103 pair of children’s underwear; 51 pair of women’s underwear; two sets of white sheets for twin beds; and 15 non-prescription items.
